Handmade Western Saddles in Arizona | Kent Cannon Saddlery

About Kent Cannon Saddlery

At Kent Cannon Saddlery, every saddle begins with a simple belief. A well-made western saddle should fit the horse, support the rider, and stand up to real use. Based in Douglas, Arizona, Kent Cannon builds handmade western saddles and custom leather goods. He serves ranchers, ropers, barrel racers, trail riders, working cowboys, and western riders. These riders value practical craftsmanship over mass production.

A Lifetime of Leatherwork and Western Craftsmanship

Kent’s love of leatherwork started when he was 12 years old. He discovered the craft through 4-H in the sixth grade. He began with handcrafted belts, wallets, purses, and holsters. Over time, that work grew into a lifelong pursuit of saddle making. His early career as an architectural designer paid the bills. Still, his true passion was working with leather. He especially loved building saddles with purpose, structure, and lasting value.

Kent Cannon Saddlery was established in Turner, Oregon. The goal was to stay small, personal, and custom-focused. Rather than becoming a production saddlery, Kent chose a different path. He builds one-of-a-kind saddles and western accessories with careful attention to fit, function, and customer service.

Handmade Saddles Built One at a Time

Today, Kent Cannon Saddlery operates from Douglas, Arizona. The shop serves riders throughout Southern Arizona and beyond. Kent works with ranchers, professional cowboys, arena competitors, and trail riders. He builds western-style ranch saddles, roping saddles, barrel saddles, cutting saddles, trail saddles, and all-around custom saddles. Each saddle is handmade one at a time. Kent uses premium leather, quality hardware, and proven construction methods.

Fit, Balance, Comfort, and Durability

Every saddle starts with the solid foundation of a quality saddle tree. Kent hand-lays the seat with multiple layers of skirting leather. This creates comfort for riders who spend long hours horseback. From there, the saddle is built around the rider’s discipline and the horse’s conformation. It is also built for the job it needs to perform. That may mean long ranch days, roping, cutting, barrel racing, trail riding, or everyday western use.

Saddle Fitting Service

Kent Cannon Saddlery also offers saddle fitting guidance. This helps riders evaluate how a current saddle works with the horse’s build, movement, and intended use. A fitting conversation can identify pressure points, balance concerns, tree fit issues, and rider comfort needs. This can help before ordering a custom saddle or adjusting existing gear. The goal is always practical. Kent helps the horse move freely, keeps the rider balanced, and supports the saddle’s intended work.

Saddle Warranty

Kent Cannon Saddlery stands behind the craftsmanship, materials, and workmanship of its handmade saddles. This applies under normal and appropriate use. Warranty coverage may include concerns related to the saddle tree, leather, stitching, or hardware. Coverage depends on the item and the terms in effect at purchase. Normal wear, misuse, neglect, improper care, animal damage, accidents, unauthorized alterations, or extreme conditions may not be covered. Customers are encouraged to contact the shop with any warranty questions or concerns.
